14 Days until coding bootcamp. Today I started training on GitHub. It's the industry standard code version control product. I completed the first level tutorials on how to use it. It's a very powerful tool packed with many features. I can see how important it is for teams to use when working on a codebase. Tomorrow I'll continue with a couple of more training exercises. Fun stuff!
Until tomorrow, Stephen

15 Days to go before the first day of coding bootcamp. I was informed that we should pick a text editor to use for the cohort. We will be coding pretty much all day so we need to have a text editor that will allow us to code comfortably. I chose Atom as my text editor for the cohort. It's widely used and it's also a project of Github.
In my effort to get my feet wet with the editor, I researched some Javascript code that would be useful for a client website. I first tested the editor by coding the Hello World program, then I wrote some code for a snippet of html to appear on various pages of the website by being displayed with Javascript. It worked. Yay! I felt accomplished. I can only imagine how I will feel after the classes begin! #winning! Until tomorrow, Stephen 16 Days before the first day of my coding boot camp: Today I did some independent study on the Java Virtual Machine. It was great. I learned how cool the Java programming language is at being able to be used on many different platforms via the JVM. I'm excited to be learning to write code that can be used on computers, phones, and many other electronic devices.
Today, I also learned a little bit more about the LESS pre-processor when modifying the CSS for a client's website. I used the Firefox inspect element tool to drill down the location of the css setting that was giving me trouble. I'm also preparing my mind to get ready for the amount of learning and coding that's to come. Until tomorrow. Stephen I am very excited to announce that I will be attending an intense 3 month coding boot camp in Atlanta. The name of the coding school is The Iron Yard. After extensive research, I feel as though The Iron Yard is the right coding school for me to attend. I am going to work on learning and improving my skills with full stack web development. Today was orientation day and I really enjoyed meeting the instructors, staff, and fellow co-hort students.
I will be blogging my journey at the Iron Yard for the next 3 months. I will be eating, sleeping, and dreaming of code. lol Currently, I believe I will focus primarily on Java as a specialty but that may change as the course gets underway. I'll keep you posted on that. To get ready for the rigorous schedule I'll be doing as many self directed Java exercises until then to ease the attack on my brain that is coming. I will also now be working and coding with a Mac which will be new for me. I've only used PCs and getting to know the Mac will be interesting to say the least. To cap off the exciting day, my wife took me to a very nice Thai restaurant in Decatur. The name of the restaurant is Siam. It's REALLY good. Check them out if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed. I also heard very good news from a client. She's going to be featured on a radio show hosted by a nationally known recording artist. She's excited and I'm excited for her. I'll be updating her website with the latest news. Until tomorrow. Stephen Online advertising can help grow your business at a much more cost effective rate than print, tv, or radio. It is also very easy to track the effectiveness of advertising by connecting special code or landing pages to your links. You can determine exactly how well a particular advertisement is working. This is very important when trying to determine your ROI (Return on Investment.)
Stephen Wicks Internet Development company can create special picture or video advertisements that you can use on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, BlackBusinessList.Com or any other popular website. Cheers and here's to a prosperous 2017, Stephen Really thinking about hiring this guy to be our Chief Relaxation Officer. I mean he's so good at it. We might as well hire the best in the industry right?
With so many deadlines, projects, sales projections, planning, marketing, etc... we need someone to help teach us how to just say "woosah" and simply chill out!! and this guy has got that down to a tee. LOL Enjoy your week everyone and remember to slow down and RELAX! Stephen Wicks Internet Development Company is proud to say that we have finished the website for Mobile Medic Team Training, Inc. The company provides mobile certified medical training for small groups.
One of the things that we did for them was to contact Google on their behalf to get their website taken off of a malware blacklist. Their previous website was attacked by hackers and caused Google to label their website a security risk. We were able to build them a brand new website and clear up their status with Google. Yay! Learn more about them at: http://www.mobilemedictrainingteam.com It's just another typical day for me. Out working on my clients' designs. Business cards are essential for sharing your contact information with people you meet. Coffee is to give you that 'jolt' that you need to keep it going all day. And of course, a mouse because I hate working without one on my laptop.
What are some 'essentials' that YOU need to get through your day? We just got finished designing a flyer for Al Tariq Temple #245. They wanted a flyer to advertise their Sip & Smoke poolside event. They will distribute the flyer via online social media, email, and text messages to market the event.
If you would like a flyer made for your business or event, feel free to contact us and let us help make your event a success! On Friday October 28, 2016, Stephen Wicks Internet Development Company participated in the Gwinnett County School's 'Career Connections' career fair. The fair was held at the Infinite Energy Center and was targeted to middle school students in their school system.
Our owner, Stephen Wicks, was on hand to answer questions of the students and to help give them guidance on the career options of web design and social media marketing. Roughly 5,000 students were on hand to ask career questions from many business owners and community groups who were there to share their wisdom and knowledge with the kids. "I met some serious young people here today. In fact, there were a few who I'm sure will be running huge businesses one day. I'm very impressed with the efforts of Gwinnett County to get these students prepared for the job market of the future." stated Stephen Wicks. This year's event was their 3rd annual affair and we were very proud to be one of the companies selected to participate. As you know, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers will be in high demand in upcoming years. We believe that it is imperative that we arm the youth with information that can help them become successful adults in the future. More About Career Connections: Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Career Connections Exhibition features dozens of metro Atlanta employers, representing each of the Academies currently offered at Gwinnett’s seven Academy high schools— Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Discovery, Lanier, Meadowcreek, Shiloh, and South Gwinnett.
